OK, if you are like me and you travel solo most of the time or even if you two-up and don't need and intercom, this may be for you.
I have an Autocomm unit, but honestly I don't want to have to hook up all its wiring all of the time just to ride. However, until now if I wanted to use my radar detector with an audio source I had to use the Autocomm as an audio mixer.
Yes, there are other ways to mix audio, but I wanted something cheap and easy.
Well folks, let me introduce you to the Belkin RockStar!
This device was created as a way or people to share an iPod with 5 sets of headphones, and it also allows for a second iPod to be plugged in to create a "mix."
The cool thing for us is that audio is audio and this cool little star will allow any audio source to be "mixed" with another.
So, on my ST I can now mix my Garmin GPS that has XM Radio with my radar detector and I don't need but a single small headphone cord going to my helmet! And, if my wife joins me and we don't need the intercom she can share what hear by plugging in to one of the extra outputs.
The RockStar comes with an extra patch cord, so out of the box you are ready to go.
I've already tried this with 2 iPods and it works great. I'll report back with an on bike test, but I am confident it will work well.
Oh, by the way. The RockStar sell for $19.99. Much better than anything else I have ever seen.
(I don't know if this will mix more than two sources as I don't have any need for it to do that, but I am sure someone will try and let us know.)
